The Tybee Island Light Station and Museum is a historical landmark that dates back to 1736, making it Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse. Standing at 145 feet, the lighthouse has guided mariners safely through the waters for centuries. Visitors can climb the 178 steps to the top of the lighthouse for panoramic views of the island and the Atlantic Ocean. The adjacent museum, located in the former keeper’s house, offers exhibits on the lighthouse’s history, maritime artifacts, and the daily lives of the keepers. The well-preserved grounds also include several other historic buildings, such as the summer kitchen and the head keeper’s cottage.
